Elementor 3.19 beta is now available and we would love to hear your feedback on the new Display Conditions feature. This is the first phase of the new feature that allows you to enhance the visitor experience by setting display conditions for elements on your website. In addition, the Element Manager now includes role permissions that empower you to specify the widgets displayed in the Widget Panel for each team member, depending on their assigned role in the Role Manager.

[Pro] New: Display Conditions for Elements

Version 3.19 introduces the first phase of the Display Conditions feature, which empowers you to set conditions for displaying elements on your website. By setting display conditions, you can create different visitor experiences according to various parameters, such as the time and date of the visit, the visitor's identity, and the type of page they are viewing. You can give an element a single display condition or set multiple conditions. Currently, when assigning multiple conditions, each one is linked with the “AND” logic, which means that the element is displayed if all conditions are satisfied.

To set display conditions for an element, select the element and go to the Advanced tab in the editing panel. Scroll down to the new display conditions icon and click on it. This will open the display conditions modal, where you can choose conditions and specify their rules. Categories include “Page”, “Post”, “User”, “Date and Time”, and “Other”.

For example, if you want to display an image on Thursdays, choose the “day of the week” condition. Then modify the condition to “Is”, and choose “Thursday”. If you want to display the image on Thursdays and only make it visible for visitors who are logged into your site, click “Add Condition”, and choose “Login Status”, “Is”, “Logged In”. This will only display the element to users who are logged in and on Mondays.

Please ensure that you update both the Elementor and Elementor Pro plugins to version 3.19 Beta in order to set Display Conditions. If you only update the Element Pro Plugin, you will be able to see the Display Conditions icon but won’t be able to use the feature.

Note: The Display Conditions for elements feature will only be available in the Advanced Elementor Pro subscription or higher and Legacy Essential subscriptions purchased before December 4th, 2023.

How to Test It:

Make sure you have updated both Elementor and Elementor Pro to version 3.19.
Activate the "Display Conditions" feature by going to the Elementor menu in WordPress and then navigating to Settings → Features.
Confirm the presence of a new “Display Conditions” option under the Advanced tab of each widget.
Click on the “Display Conditions” icon to open the modal.
Explore the various suggested rules and check if the element is displayed or not based on those rules.
Verify that the AND logic is working as expected.
Ensure everything functions correctly both in the Editor and on the front end.

[Pro] Role Permissions in the Element Manager

This version improves collaboration with teammates and other stakeholders by introducing role permissions into the Element Manager. This allows you to customize the widgets displayed in the Widget Panel for each team member based on their assigned role in the Role Manager. As a result, the widget panel becomes more streamlined, only showing the relevant widget for each role.

Unlike disabling widgets with the Element Manager, modifying a widget's role permissions will not impact the frontend of your site or remove existing widgets from the canvas. The widget will still be visible to visitors, but users without permissions to a specific widget will not be able to add that widget into the Editor.

Note: The Role Permissions in the Element Manager will only be available in the Advanced Elementor Pro subscription or higher.

How to Test It:

Navigate to WordPress > Elementor Menu > Elements Manager.
Confirm that the Plugins list displays relevant widgets for your website, and use the filter option to review the widgets list.
In the Permission column, click on the Edit button.
Choose the role from which you want to hide the widget in the widget panel.
Ensure the selected roles appear next to the Edit button.
Save the changes and check the widget panel for that role.
Confirm that the widget is not appearing in the widget panel, while existing widgets on the canvas remain editable and visible on the front end.
Check the “All Statuses” filter to ensure you can switch between Active and Inactive widgets.
Verify that everything functions correctly in the Editor and front end.

[Pro] Form Builder - Akismet Integration

Elementor's Form Builder now integrates seamlessly with the Akismet spam filter to protect your forms from spam submissions. Akismet works in the background, using AI technology to detect spam with 99.9 percent accuracy without any additional interactions required by your visitors. This creates a seamless experience for visitors while also protecting site managers. The Akismet plugin can be enabled on four different field types: "Name," "URL," "Email," and "Message". Once the filter is enabled, submissions suspected as spam will be marked as such in your submissions page and won’t be sent by mail. This makes it easier for you to manage actual messages from visitors.

Note: The Akismet Integration in the Form Builder will only be available in the Advanced Elementor Pro subscription or higher.

How to Test It:

Download and install the Akismet plugin, and create an Akismet account.
Generate an API Key on the Akismet website and copy it.
Go to Settings > Akismet Anti-spam in your WordPress Dashboard and paste your API Key.
In the Elementor Editor, select your form and go to "Actions After Submit."
Add "Akismet" to activate the spam filter.
A new Akismet Spam Protection section will appear in the editing panel with inputs for "Name," "URL," "Email," and "Message."
To activate the spam filter on your desired form fields:
- Go to the Content Tab in the Form Builder.
- Click on the desired form field item and open its advanced tab.
- Copy the field's shortcode.
- Return to the Akismet Spam Protection section and paste the shortcode into the respective input field.
Save the page and preview it on the front end.
Check if the spam protection is working by following the instructions on the Akismet website.
Ensure the spam protection is effective by verifying that you didn't receive the email and that an error message indicates spam was detected.

[Elementor AI] Generate Container Variations from the Template Library

Enhance your building experience by generating AI Container variations directly from Elementor's template library. This version adds a "Generate Variations" button to the template library, which provides three different AI based versions of the template, each with its own layout, style and content. You can also generate container variations from the Template Library directly from the AI Containers prompt input. Each Container can be customized in the Editor manually to perfect your result, and leverage additional AI features, such as text and images

How to Test It:

Start by going to your WordPress dashboard. Navigate to Elementor > Settings > Features and enable the “Build with AI” experiment. Note: This feature requires the Containers feature to be active on your site.
Create a new page and open it with Elementor for editing.
On your canvas, click the Folder icon to access the Template Library.
Hover over a template and select the “Generate Variations" button.
Make sure the thumbnail of your chosen template is visible. Then, specify your desired changes - these can include modifications to content, colors, typography, images, and icons. For assistance in crafting your prompt, use the "Enhance variation" button to augment your original prompt with AI.
Click "Generate" and review the three variations generated based on your initial container.
Insert your preferred variation onto your page. You can repeat this process for other containers as necessary.
Verify that everything functions correctly in the Editor and front end.
Now, let’s try the other way around: on your page, click on the “Build with AI” button (pink AI charm icon) and make sure the prompt modal launches..
Click on the “Plus” icon next to the prompt input area, and select “Create variations from Template Library” and make sure the library launches.
Select any template from the “Blocks” section and click “Insert”, now, your template should be attached to the Build with AI modal.
Hit generate and make sure the results are relevant for your prompt.

Additional Updates

Mega Menu Enhancement: Style the dropdown indicator including size, spacing, rotation, and color.

Editor Workflow Hints: Improve accessibility and SEO with hints in the editing panel when an image is missing an alt text.

Minimum Required PHP Version 7.4

As part of our ongoing efforts to introduce new features, improve performance, and enhance security, it is necessary to fully utilize the capabilities of the latest versions of PHP. Therefore, this version of Elementor will only be compatible with websites running PHP version 7.4 and later. If your server still uses older PHP versions, your website will continue to function, but you will not be able to update to Elementor 3.19. Just had a quick look at the display conditions. Disclaimer I use JetEngine plugin display conditions a lot so I am an advanced user in need of this type of feature frequently. Please add a field for meta data and another field for custom so users can either use a dynamic tag or shortcode so they can query their own data, and by URL parameter. Also missing taxonomies check e.g. for Woocommerce categories or attribute related pages. Also I know you put this as 'first phase' but from your other features released in the past I don't see impactful changes outside of the beta release, so please consider getting this in a better state before 3.19 release (i.e. from Alpha experiment to Beta status that can be used on production sites).

@nicholaszein I can see you do plan to make it extendable for developers (see screenshot below), although I can't get it to work myself, please get your team to create documentation for this when it is in beta state, even if it is just some simple examples please.

Also could your team consider a URL check under 'Other' for URL parameters in this update?

@perks98, yes, we do! 🙂

However, since we have still to implement some core functionalities (like the 'OR' operator), we won't release an API until we have all the structure sorted out, as these might change, and we don't want devs to use it only to make it incompatible, causing BC issues.

URL parameters will be added in a future version, as these are not as simple as they might sound. They are bound to the permalink structure of every site, and Display Conditions work at the server level before the page is rendered, not on the client side.

Sorry to still touch a dead topic but just in case you do a 180° on adding 'Request Parameter' option I've copied some code from your 'Request Parameter' dynamic tag code so it should be the same standard you'd want the code to run as a display condition. I've only tested the 'Get' option and that works but I don't have the facility to check the other two options. I have added the code below in case you want to consider it. As it is Elementor Pro I can't suggest a pull request. Fine if you don't consider it in this update but I thought I'd still try 👍:

We will try to include them in this release, but if we can't, they will definitely be added in the next one! There are a few things that need to be sorted out, and we don't want this to introduce any bugs. So we are taking our time to make it right. 🙂

Thank you for the feedback. The image size for dynamic backgrounds is something we want to implement, however, it's more complicated than we initially predicted. I'm afraid it's going to take some time to implement it.

Great update as always. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to review this version. But I had a question about the feature of the display conditions...

Is it possible to create a condition based on terms?

For example, I want the desired widget to be displayed only in one of the parent product's categories. (Do not display in its child categories)

In another scenario, I want the desired widget to be displayed in child categories in addition to the specific parent category.

I hope you have some time to test it out, but we understand that's not always possible.

Taxonomy/term-based conditions will be implemented in a future version. For now, we are only supporting native WordPress Categories and Tags (for Posts).

Yeah... We were hoping to have it ready for this version too, however, we still need to address some parts of the conversion from FA5 to FA6, and we decided to postpone it until it's more reliable.

Fair enough :) I know you guys have the Roadmap on your site, but it would be great to have this updated or somewhere showing what is in the pipeline. I have clients asking me all the time when they will have the new Twitter icon etc and it would be great to be at least able to tell them it's under development, coming soon, this quarter's release etc.

I check pull requests etc and know roughly what is being worked on and developed for the Free version but the Pro is always a mystery until its released.

The new Twitter icon can be imported as an SVG. This does not prevent users from using any of the functionalities of the Social and Share widgets. So we aren't really worried about it. Not to mention it's still uncertain if it will continue to be used.

The implementation of FA6 has other, much more important ramifications. 😉

I've started using the Elements Manager on production sites, the new Role Permissions will take this to the next level, I'm really excited for the official release. It will help out a ton with the creation of custom themes and handoff to clients who will want to build new pages on their own. The interface for editing Role Permissions is pretty clean. No issue there!

Cache plugins affected on Display Conditions?

Some conditions may not work correctly on your live site due to conflicts with cached plugins. These conflicts can cause issues with the functionality of certain conditions. This happens when your cache solution preloads the page. Since Display Conditions are server-based, meaning they are triggered only when the page is loaded, if you have preloaded cache or object cache enabled, it may not load the page from the server, instead loading from a static file, or from the object cache, which may not account for the triggering of the conditions. Say for example you set an element to show if it's Tuesday, but your cache solution preloaded the page a day before. When someone visits the page, it will load the preloaded version instead of loading it from the server.

To resolve this, try temporarily disabling the cache plugin or excluding specific pages from caching in the plugin settings. By doing so, you can ensure that the display conditions feature functions properly.

Display Conditions do not work for me using:

LocalWP
PHP 8.123
Mac Chrome current version
Elementor 3.18.3
E Pro 3.19.0-beta1
Turned on Display Conditions in Features to Active (green dot)
When I go to a page and drop a button on the page, go to Advanced Tab and click on Conditions button - Nothing Happens.

Can you confirm you have both Elementor Core v3.19-beta1, and Elementor Pro v3.19-beta1 installed? I see you have Elementor Core 3.18.3 installed. You need to have both betas installed for this feature to work.

Just a minor technical thing I noticed when I looked at the code, I don't think the placeholder works in a text input field, only really noticeable on the 'From URL' option as that is a text input control. It should have a placeholder of 'URL'.

@nicholaszein It's a shame that this "Conditional Visibility" function is only going to be available for some Elementor Pro plans, I was passing by when I saw the "Conditional Visibility" thing but again Elementor disappoints again and apart from being very basic from the start.

A note about Element Manager...

When we select the desired plugin in the list of elements (in plugin filter option) and then click on Deactivate Unused Elements, this action is applied to all elements (from all plugins). While it should only be applied to filtered plugin elements. Am I wrong?

I've checked with the team, and this button in particular is supposed to always Deactivate all Unused Elements, regardless of what appears in the list when you filter it.

I can see how that might be confusing, and we apologize for that confusion. I see that we haven't made it clear enough, so we are going to add a disclaimer to the Help Center article. And we will discuss this further.

That's interesting. For the most part, Akismet is free for personal use, you need a subscription for business usage only.

What are other anti-spam integrations you would like to see implemented?

Yes its free for personal websites. But a lot of poeple use elementor for there business website. So you have to pay? For example zerospam.org is cheaper.

Akismet is a problem in the EU because of the GDPR. Would be much better to integrate something purely local that does not require any external service (paid or free). For example https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/antispam-bee/

Maybe add a small X besides the conditions button to clear all the set conditions (with a confirmation popup). Otherwise when you need to quickly remove all conditions, you have to: open the panel, remove every condition, and then save it (for every element).

I strongly agree with this. But I think he should mature with this feature. Of course in the future.

Hi,

I recorded a short review of the conditional display feature, it seems to work well. Review also includes demonstration how we can extend the conditions from a external plugin via hooks.

I added one condition by product price and one by user GEO location. The only thing that I wasn't able to figure out is how to extend the class Comparator_Provider class as for the price condition I wanted "bigger" "smaller". I didn't see any matching condition for numbers, It does not seem to have a hook into it. However, there may be a simple way to extend it that I'm not aware of.

Since we are in the early stages of development, and this is just the first phase, we do not have all the infrastructure sorted out for Display Conditions, and we are not officially publishing an API to add your own. As you already have figured out, you can extend our classes to add your conditions, however, at this stage we recommend not doing so because our methods are not finalized and may change in the future.

Nonetheless, it's good to see your interest in extending this feature, and we can't wait to see what you and other devs can come up with once our final API is published. 💪

We do have plans to add WooCommerce compatibility to Display Conditions though, which will be added in a future version! 🙂

Behavior

Desktop breakpoint only. The feature will generate responsive heuristics.
Optimizes structure (nested divs will be reduced while trying to preserve layout) to enable easy future editing.

What Won’t Work Properly

Too large container
Widgets with repeating elements (icon list...)
Widgets with nested elements (nested carousel...)
iFrames
Highly secure websites (banks, finance etc..)

Current Limitations

The feature does not replicate content and style directly into Elementor.

Doesn't work for those without AI credit. Wish I could try the URL based reference to see what it does... shame. @avivu or @nicholaszein could you share a video of this for those that cannot use please?

Any trial account will work, you can try using any email address and sign up to try it out.

p.s - it won’t charge any credits for the tests you’ll make during the beta period.

Good morning Elementor team,
Very interesting new feature is for me the "Display Conditions for Elements", if i may suggest an improvement it would be to be able to use "Custom Fields" as element condition.
As well but may be already planned logic could include "Contains" "Does not Contains" .... but this will be another step :-)

For this first phase, we are aiming to implement features that are intrinsically connected with Core WordPress functionalities. This doesn't pertain to the beta version, but it's more efficient to include it here since it doesn't necessitate the creation of a complete issue.

Navigate to Elementor > Features.

The description for Lazy Load Background Images is lacking a period (full stop) at the end.

I've received the Beta 6 update on my test site, but I haven't seen the corresponding changelog posted here yet.

Hello, I hope I'm not too late from the discussion, but I hope this question doesn't sound confusing.

I haven't test it out yet but I have a question. But better if I describe the steps I want to take:

Firstly...

Say I created a pop-up with a slug /?elementor_library=mobile-nav

So this is the url I need to add for cache exclusion? How should I handle elementor library template in terms of cache exclusions?

Then moving on...

Inside of that pop-up I created a container with a form with display conditions that only show on set date.

My question is, how does Elementor handle that?

A pop-up request on a button widget on the front/inner page with a display condition applied to the pop-up content.

Is there a performance penalty by doing this?

How about multi-step form with display conditions inside a pop-up?

Hello @Henzxon,

I'm not sure this is related to this release. I think you might be mixing two different features.

But to answer your question, if your cache policy is affecting the functionality of Popups or Display Conditions, you might need to adjust the cache settings to avoid this from happening. All Display Conditions are triggered from the server. If you enforce strictly static loading of your pages, the Display Conditions might not work. You will have to test it. We do not provide support or guidance on how to apply your cache policies.

Employing the appropriate cache policies will allow Popups and Display Conditions to work just fine. There is no way to quantify if it will affect the performance of the website or not. Usually, it doesn't.

One thing about the dropdown indicator that I forgot to mention...

Now rotation option is added. But it would be much better if the rotation option could be controlled in hover and active status (Along with the transition duration option in hover status). Currently, this option is not as efficient as it should be. Please consider this for the next version.

Please remove the image optimizer plugin advert in the next update... When I edit client sites it gets annoying and in the way it feels, especially since you added the notice banner around alt tags for SEO too. Maybe move it below the need help section.
